Fast growing tour operator Travelscope turns to ntl:Telewest Business

  • Voice and data services chosen for new purpose-built Gloucester headquarters of leading specialist tour operator
  • 10 Mbps managed data services designed to ensure full resiliency, sustaining communications at all times
  • Business continuity solution sets new standard for communications systems in the travel sector.

13th July 2006. ntl:Telewest Business, supplier of communications services to the public and private sectors, today announced a contract with Travelscope through which the Gloucester-based company has developed one of the most resilient communications systems in the British travel sector, able to sustain operations uninterrupted through virtually any eventuality.

Travelscope has grown rapidly, with turnover up 46% on the last three years, by providing specialist travel packages through reader offer promotions and workplace incentives. Having previously been based across multiple sites, it relocated to a new purpose-built £6m headquarters on Gloucester Business Park earlier this year. This created the opportunity to develop a ‘bulletproof’ communications infrastructure that enables core business processes to continue unaffected, no matter what type of fault may strike, and will scale to enable Travelscope to undertake further business expansion.

ntl:Telewest Business has been chosen to provide a 10 Mbps (megabits per second) Ethernet service to Travelscope’s headquarters and a secondary site in Bristol, as part of a highly planned high-speed communications infrastructure that provides fully integrated voice over IP and data connectivity between the sites. The services have been engineered so that the loss of any connection to the building would have negligible impact on the communications services provided to any of the company’s 200 personnel. ntl:Telewest Business also provides fully resilient inbound and outbound voice services, thus helping to ensure the call centre has connectivity at all times.

Travelscope needs to enable its personnel to communicate with customers, manage booking and holiday itineraries, liaise with suppliers and engage in marketing activities throughout each working day. Moreover, its communications services need to be able to withstand periods of peak or exceptional demand, such as during busy holiday bookings periods and when major incidents abroad increase the level of inbound enquiries.

“By working with ntl:Telewest Business we have created what we regard as a bulletproof business continuity environment, in which our communications systems can be maintained uninterrupted no matter what problems may occur elsewhere.“, said Phil Dunkley, Head of Information and Building Services for Travelscope. “The level of detailed planning and testing that went into these systems for our new headquarters sets new standards for our area of the travel sector. The ability to keep operating and maintain communication with our customers is paramount, and we can now ensure that this is always the case right across the organisation.”

“Travelscope’s success has been driven by its focus on delivering precisely what customers want and like every business in the travel sector, communications systems are at the heart of operations.”, said John Cunningham, Director of Business Markets, ntl:Telewest Business. “Our advanced services are helping to provide an extremely high level of resiliency and that gives the company total confidence in the strength of its communications systems. Travelscope’s decision to choose ntl:Telewest Business as its primary communications supplier demonstrates the strength of our network, the sophistication of our services and our commitment to delivering business continuity solutions to precise specifications.”
