Kent IT targets continued growth with ultra-high broadband provision from ntl:Telewest Business

  • New data centre launched in Maidstone
  • County’s leading IT services company, Kent IT, continues 20% year-on-year growth

24 October, 2006. ntl:Telewest Business, the supplier of communications services to the public and private sectors, has provided Kent IT with significant broadband capabilities. The increased broadband provision will enable Kent IT to enhance its new data centre at The Maidstone Studios, offering new services to its 300-plus customers throughout Kent and Sussex.

ntl:Telewest Business has provided Kent IT with a 20Mb (megabit) connection to allow for an increase in bandwidth between its data centre and its customers. Increasing numbers of customers with ever growing data demands meant that Kent IT needed wider bandwidth than the existing ADSL links that it was using. ntl:Telewest Business’ cable enables 20Mb of traffic but can scale by five times that amount, up to 100Mb, to enable Kent IT to grow its customer base further with subsequent increases in bandwidth use.

“Most of our IT support for our customers is carried out centrally from Maidstone, so uninterrupted network performance for us - and our customers - is essential,” said Garry Stockton, co-founder and managing director, Kent IT. “We needed extremely wide bandwidth to enable us to offer ‘co-location’ IT services to our customers and our existing lines could not support this move. We were introduced to ntl:Telewest Business, who understood our requirements and supplied us with exactly what we needed to continue to provide a leading service to our customers and help us grow as a company.”

John Cunningham, Director of Business Markets for ntl:Telewest Business, said: “The performance and capacity of the network is key to the success of Kent IT, as well as the fast-growing list of businesses across the county that rely on its leading IT services. ntl:Telewest Business understands the requirements of local businesses of all sizes and is pleased to continue to support Kent IT through its period of growth.”

Kent IT employs 12 people and its customers include The Maidstone Studios - where Channel Five’s Trisha Goddard show is filmed, accountancy firm McCabe Ford Williams and prominent Kent egg producer, Fridays. Kent IT recently provided IT support for the Ladies English Open at Chart Hills Golf Club, Biddenden.
