- Five-fold increase in internet bandwidth
- ntl:Telewest Business chosen for resiliency factors as its
offers a totally separate network to BT
8 December 2006. ntl:Telewest Business, the supplier of
communications services to the public and private sectors, is
enabling Constellation Europe, one of Europe’s biggest drinks
companies, to improve its daily office operations and strengthen
information access for people on the move.
Constellation Europe is part of Constellation Brands Inc, the
largest wine company in the world and a leading producer and
exporter of wine from the USA, Australia and New Zealand. The
company has a strong portfolio of brands from the wine, cider,
fortified wine and wine-style drink categories. These include the
Hardys, Turner Road, Nobilo and Stowells wine brands, Blackthorn,
Gaymer’s Olde English and Diamond White ciders, Stone’s Ginger Wine
and Babycham.
Constellation Europe is using 20 Megabits-per-second (Mbps)
managed internet services from ntl:Telewest Business to greatly
increase the bandwidth available to its 1,200 European-based
personnel and avoid potential internet traffic bottlenecks caused
by extra demand. While the company has to be able to support
growing volumes of internet-based email traffic, it also needs to
give greater priority to people accessing its network remotely,
such as sales representatives needing critical information when at
a customer site.
“The internet is central to all that our people do and as we
continue to expand we are creating much more internet traffic,”
said Mike Davis, IT Infrastructure Manager for Constellation
Europe. “ntl:Telewest Business has allowed us to make a massive
increase in the speed of our internet access and give much more
bandwidth to our staff, prioritised so that they can get access to
the most important information very quickly. The fact that
ntl:Telewest Business has its own nationwide network that passes
right outside our door means that we view this as a comprehensive
alternative to relying on the BT network.”
“The ability for people to communicate quickly without having to
worry about a glass ceiling on their internet access is crucial for
a company that needs to move fast to serve its customers,” said
John Cunningham, director of business markets, ntl:Telewest
Business. “Our network now reaches 85 per cent of UK businesses and
is the only alternative to BT’s infrastructure as a nationwide
British communications network.”
