Telewest Business chosen to provide IPVPN to the Elliott
Group
July 19 2004. Telewest Business, the supplier of broadband
communications to the public and private sector markets, has been
chosen by the Elliott Group to provide an IPVPN to link all their
sites across the UK.
Headquartered in Peterborough, the Elliott Group is the UK’s
leading designer and manufacturer of building systems and has 38
locations across the country, providing solutions for the
residential, education and healthcare markets. They needed to
integrate all their offices together with a secure and fast data
link but were hampered by their previous network.
Telewest’s IPVPN is a fully managed virtual private network that
connects any number of end points using private circuits and the
Telewest shared core. It can carry four classes of IP traffic over
one single network such as voice, video and two classes of data
traffic.
To reduce spend but continue to maintain full network access for
the whole of the Elliott Group, Telewest deployed two different
access types to the Elliott Group IPVPN network. Digital Subscriber
lines (DSL) were provided for the smaller sites, allowing users to
send data across the network as needed. Private Fixed Link circuits
were used for the larger sites to ensure security and speed across
the local circuit.
It was also important to put in place a recovery programme so
Telewest provided complete network resilience with ISDN back up
circuits to ensure continued service in the event of an outage.

IPVPN has provided us with a tailored, bespoke network integrating
all our various sites to increase efficiency, ease of access to
information and better quality of service. We were able to
integrate even our smallest sites with one or two users by using an
256k Data Stream link completing our 38-location integration.”
