ntl:Telewest Business, part of the
Virgin Media Group, today announced that it
is supplying fully managed internet
access to George Best Belfast City Airport.
The 2MB managed internet access
delivers internet connectivity to the airport
and its web site.
The managed internet solution provides
connectivity to all the administrative
offices in the airport and retail
outlets within the terminal. In addition, it links
the airports web site to the internet
providing information about the airport and
real time flight information.
Continuity of internet service is
crucial to the day-to-day operation of the
airport. 2.7 million passengers use it
each year to travel within the UK and rely
on the web site for the latest flight
information. The site receives more than
30,000 unique web visits every
month.
The managed internet service from
ntl:Telewest Business provides fully
managed, high speed connectivity in
both directions with the bandwidth
reserved exclusively for the airport.
The fully managed solution is based on a
leased line internet service and
includes hardware and 24 hours a day, 365
days a year support.
The airport chose a managed internet
solution from ntl:Telewest Business as
opposed to an unmanaged solution to
guarantee the reliability of the
connection and minimise maintenance.
ntl:Telewest Business protects the
integrity of the service by providing
a comprehensive Service Level
Agreement (SLA).
“Belfast City airport is major gateway
for business and leisure passengers for
Northern Ireland providing links to
more than 20 airports throughout the UK.
Internet connectivity is as important
to the operation of the airport as any other
utility,” said David Armstrong,
Regional Sales Manager, ntl:Telewest
Business.
“Internet connectivity is vital to our
operations. It is utilised by staff throughout
the offices, provides real time flight
arrival and departure information to the
website, and allows software providers
to remotely monitor business critical
applications. ntl:Telewest Business
has provided a proactive service that
matched our business and technical
requirements, and went beyond our
expectations” said Raymond Hooke,
Customer Service Manager, George
Best Belfast City Airport.
