Audi South West drives sleek customer ordering systems with ntl:Telewest Business

  • Next generation network adopted to help maintain a flawless approach to customer ordering in showrooms

  • MPLS IPVPN connects five West Country sites to manufacturing and supply centres in Germany

  • Provides a platform for further next generation communications services

Audi South West, which operates car dealerships across the West Country,

has overhauled its showroom ordering systems and back office communications with a next generation private network service from ntl:Telewest Business, part of Virgin Media. The investment is part of Audi South West’s intention to deliver exemplary service to its customers at all times.

The company has installed a Multiprotocol Labelling Systems (MPLS) Internet

Protocol Virtual Private Network (IPVPN) to power its computer systems across its showrooms in Barnstaple, Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plymouth and Taunton. Customers wanting to order new vehicles or accessories on site are now able to view all choices and all elements of the transaction live as part of Audi South West’s intentions to support a highly bespoke range. The new dedicated network ensures speed in information sharing and resilience at every location.

The new network offers highly sophisticated and resilient service as it is  elivered over the £13 billion UK-wide ntl:Telewest Business next generation network. It provides a robust platform for further communication services the dealerships chain may wish to introduce in the future, such as IP telephony.

“This is much more than improved communication links, this is fundamental to offering our customers a flawless experience when they buy from us,” said Mike Davidson, head of IT at Audi South West. “We want to put them behind the wheel of how they buy a car from us, or upgrade their current Audi. Next generation communications technology is the bedrock of that capability.”

Previously, Audi South West used a mixture of point-to-point communications

services between its sites, and to connect to manufacturing and supply bases

in Germany. It found that these services were prone to slow performance and

failure, so the in-store ordering experience and use of other business applications was mixed.

“The motor industry is fast modernising how it uses technology not just to sell,

but to create differentiation in how customers are treated,” said Andrew Beckhaus, Business Sales Manager for ntl:Telewest Business in the southwest.  “Our network delivers next generation speed and sophistication, so can deliver a seamless and high-performance service across every location.”

ntl:Telewest Business offers the only alternative UK-wide fixed-line telecommunications network to BT, and has already upgraded it to next generation network technology to deliver new levels of sophistication and speed. With more than 38,000 street cabinets directly connecting more than 190 cities and towns, ntl:Telewest Business can reach most businesses in the UK without resorting to third parties for the last mile.
