The routes

All teams will be following the same routes on all 3 peaks.  Teams will need to purchase the relevant OS Explorer Maps (at least 2 copies of each per team).  The routes can be downloaded in PDF format, however all teams need to transfer the data to their own maps.

Ben Nevis - route & known hazards

Expect congestion in the car park.  It is recommended that once the team has been dropped off each team driver moves back to Fort William.

Descending via the Pony Track, from the summit trig point follow bearing 231 degrees for 150m, be wary of Gardyloo Gully to the right.  Pace accurately.  Then take a bearing of 282 degrees and follow until back on the established Pony Track.  Don’t stray into  Five Finger Gully.

Ascent - approximately 3 hour climb
Descent - approximately 2.5 hours

Sunrise (12th June):   04:28hrs

Scafell Pike - route & known hazards

All teams must take the Wasdale route.  Due to serious erosion and rock falls the Mickledore section of the Wasdale route is very dangerous even in daylight and good visibility.  You must take the route via Lingmell Col to avoid this section.

There are no clear paths for the last 200m, bare rocks, loose boulders and numerous cairns litter the routes.  Be very careful of footholds and navigation.

There is an unmanned  MRT shelter containing a stretcher and First Aid Kit at the top of Lords Rake/Mickledore.  This is marked with an “X” on the PDF file.

Ascent - approximately 2.5 hour climb
Descent - approximately 1.5 hours

The ascent of Snowdon will start from the Pen-y-Pass Youth Hostel using the Miners track.

There will be congestion at Pen-y-Pass Youth Hostel, therefore once teams have been dropped off the drivers must make their way to Llanberis.
